Research & Scientific Foundation
Life Map AI is a digital tool for visual self-reflection, interactive inner world mapping and AI-supported reflection.
About the Research Direction
Life Map AI explores how visual mapping, daily reflection, image-based reflection and AI-generated reflective questions can support self-awareness and personal growth.
The research direction focuses on understanding how people engage with their inner world when given interactive visual tools, and how structured reflection can complement existing psychological practices.
Visual Self Reflection
Visual Self Reflection is a reflective approach where people use images, symbols, objects, photos and map elements to explore personal meaning. Instead of writing long journal entries, users place visual objects on a map and reflect on what they represent.
This method leverages the brain's visual processing strengths and can reveal patterns that are harder to access through text alone.
Interactive Inner World Mapping
Users can visually represent relationships, goals, fears, hopes, values and life priorities as objects on a map. The map becomes a living picture of the inner world that evolves over time.
By seeing these elements spatially, users gain new perspectives on how different parts of their life connect and influence each other.
AI Reflection
AI does not diagnose, does not interpret symbols as facts and does not replace therapy. It asks gentle reflective questions based on user-created content.
The AI companion is designed to prompt deeper thinking, not to provide answers. It respects the user's own interpretations and never claims clinical authority.
Psychological Inspirations
Life Map AI is inspired by well-established psychological approaches:
- Cognitive Behavioral Therapy — understanding thoughts, feelings and behaviors
- Socratic questioning — guided self-discovery through questions
- Narrative therapy — exploring personal stories and meanings
- Art therapy — expressing inner experience through visual media
- Jungian symbolic work — engaging with symbols and archetypes
- Moreno's sociometry — mapping relationships and social configurations
- Motivational Interviewing — evoking change talk and self-motivation
- Acceptance and Commitment Therapy — clarifying values and committed action
Methodology
Future research directions include:
- User feedback and iterative design
- Qualitative interviews about the mapping experience
- Usability testing with diverse populations
- Self-reflection reports and usage patterns
- Anonymous aggregated insights (privacy-preserving)
- Academic evaluation and peer review
